Privacy Policy
The Mindful Design app (“The Mindful Design: Mindfulness for Professional Development”) for iPhone and iPad, and for Android when it is released.

In Brief
- The app collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no cookies and no tracking.
- A few notes stay on your device so the app remembers your place. They never leave it.
- The app goes online only to ask our course website for newer courses. Those requests carry nothing about you.
Who We Are
The Mindful Design is a Washington nonprofit corporation, recognised by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) public charity, based in Kirkland, Washington, USA. We make the app. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean The Mindful Design, and “the app” means The Mindful Design app on any device.

What We Collect
Nothing that identifies you, and nothing about how you use the app. The app has no accounts, sign-in or forms. It never asks for your name, email address, location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or any other permission. It contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking software, and it sets no cookies.
On Your Device
So the app remembers your place, it keeps these small notes in its own storage on your device:
- that you have seen the welcome screen;
- the course you opened last;
- which courses you have opened, and which version of each;
- which courses you have finished;
- the list of available courses from our course website, so a new course still shows when you are offline.
The notes contain no name, no times and no answers. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and we cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them. If you back up your device, they may be included in that backup, which stays under your control. Like any web browser, your device may also keep a temporary copy of course files it downloaded.
When the App Goes Online
The courses are stored inside the app and open without a connection. When your device is online, the app sends these requests to our course website at mindful-rise-courses.pages.dev, always over an encrypted connection (HTTPS):
- When you open a course, it asks for a short list of course version numbers, to see whether a newer version exists. If one does, the newer version opens from the website; otherwise the copy inside the app opens.
- When Home opens, it asks for the list of courses, so a course added since your last app update appears.
- A course added that way opens from the website.
These requests contain no name, account, device identifier or record of what you did in a course. As with any request on the internet, the server that answers sees your device’s IP address and a short description of its browser software (the “user agent”).
The course website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which handles these requests for us to deliver the files and protect the site from abuse. We have no analytics turned on for the site, it sets no cookies, and we do not use this information to identify you or to build any profile. Cloudflare handles it under its own privacy policy, and may do so in the United States and other countries where it operates.
The courses were made with Articulate Rise 360. In the app, the course player loads only from the app itself or from our course website. It does not contact Articulate or anyone else, and it stores nothing on your device.
Links That Leave the App
Some buttons open another app or website. Once you are there, that service’s own privacy policy applies, and the app is not told what you do.
- Donate opens our donation page at Givebutter in your browser. Anything you enter there goes to Givebutter, which processes gifts for us under its own privacy policy and shares a gift’s details with us, as it does for every organisation it serves. Nothing about a gift is connected to the app.
- Visit the website opens themindfuldesign.org in your browser. That site uses no cookies and no analytics.
- Share the app opens your device’s share sheet with the app’s App Store link. You choose where it goes; the app keeps no record.
- On the Help page, a phone number opens your device’s calling or messaging app, and the Chat links open those services’ websites. The app keeps no record of these taps, but your device keeps its own history of calls and messages.
- An email link opens your mail app. If you write to us, we use your address and message only to reply, and we delete them when you ask.
Tracking and Advertising
We do not track you. The app does not use your device’s advertising identifier, does not combine anything with data from other companies, and does not sell or share personal information, for advertising or for any other purpose. With nothing to track, the app behaves the same whether or not your device sends a “Do Not Track” signal.
The App Stores
Apple’s App Store and Google Play deliver the app and its updates under their own privacy policies. They may show us totals, such as how many people downloaded the app, and crash reports from people who chose to share them with developers in their device settings. These do not tell us who you are.
Children
The app is made for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and it collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
How Long We Keep Data
We keep no personal data from the app, so there is nothing of yours for us to keep or delete. The notes on your device stay until you delete the app. Cloudflare keeps limited request records for security, under its own policy.
Your Choices and Rights
- To remove everything the app has stored, delete the app.
- To keep the app offline, use your device’s Airplane Mode. The courses inside the app still open.
- Depending on where you live, including the European Union, the United Kingdom and some US states, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to receive a copy. You may also complain to your data protection authority. We hold no personal data from the app, so a request will usually find nothing, but we answer every request, free of charge, and we will not treat you differently for making one. - Legal basis (European Union and United Kingdom): where data protection law applies to the brief handling of your IP address when the app fetches course files, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the courses to you reliably and securely (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR and the UK GDPR).
Security
Every request the app makes uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and the app’s settings allow no other kind. Because we collect nothing, there is no store of personal data to protect or to lose.
Changes to This Policy
If the way the app handles data ever changes, we will update this policy before that version of the app is released, and change the date at the top. A change that collected any data would also change the app’s privacy labels in the App Store and Google Play first.
